The insects’ game
Opera in two acts with music by Federico Ibarra and script by Verónica Musalem, based on the 1921 homonym play written by Karel Čapek and Josef Čapek.
The plot consists of a social critique through the incursion of the traveler, a character who’s disillusioned by the human world, to the promising universe of the insects’ life, however cruel and absurd.
This piece, not premiered yet integrally, is the most ambitious piece of the composer due to its length and the magnificence of the resources in it.
The acidic and parodic characteristics of the plot are displayed in the musical treatment of each scene and in the notable skill to flow through the most varied musical genres, greatly orchestrated with richness and maturity, it demands from vocal parts to combine highly technical virtuosity and dramatic expression.
