Biography
Verónica Musalem Moreno. Artistic name: Verónica Musalem. Member of the National Art Creators System 2012-15 & 2019-22. Playwright, scriptwriter, screenwriter, teacher, and stage director. She has studied a BFA in Drama & Theater in the Philosophy and Letters Faculty. She has won a scholarship for dramaturgy studies with José Sanchis Sinisterra in Barcelona, Spain. Her most recent studies were: a Diploma with Adel Hakim, french stage director; Diploma of London’s Royal Court, and studies with Rodolfo Obregón and Mauricio Kartun: reality practices in the scene. Adela & Juana was published in the magazine: The Mercurian, A Theatrical Translation Review, The University of North Carolina. Presentation of the French version of the play Visage de Dieu? in the book Cadavres exquis, by Le Cahier de L’Egaré. She has premiered more than 25 plays. The play New York versus El Zapotito was premiered in the Helénico Theater, and the play Slices of life, in LAB trece; as well as her children’s opera At Gods’ grave in 2012. Tour of the play The lost people of San Luis Island in Madrid, Cádiz, and Paris, in 2013. Premieres of the plays: Because that’s the way sea things are, The New Alexandria, Tito: in the heart of the beast, and The lost people of San Luis Island. Latitude was selected to be shown at the International Festival DRAMAFEST-Australia. New York versus El Zapotito is shown in March 2014 in Paris, France, during the academic program of students of Liceo René Cassin (Stage direction: Laura Plas). Dramatized reading of the play New York versus El Zapotito in Skidmore College, New York, by the Bachelor in Translation coordinated by Eunice Ferreira in 2015. The play New York versus El Zapotito is shown in villages at the mountains in Oaxaca by Teatro Itinerante. Premiere of the play Punta Cometa in Orientación Theater, production: EFITEATRO 2016. She has received three times a grant from the Co-investment and Cultural Projects Programme of FONCA, and a grant from BANCOMER Foundation. Winner of a scholarship granted by FONCA in the call of Young Creators 1994-95. Invited to Mostra SESC of Latin Arts in Sao Paulo, Brasil. Selected to participate in an Artistic Residence organized by the Lark Play Development Center, and FONCA, in New York City. Winner of a creation scholarship granted by IBERESCENA in 2008-09. Winner of the best dramaturgy award Emilio Carballido in 2012 for the play New York versus El Zapotito. Winner of the grant EFITEATRO twice. Writer of the opera Bonds in the 7th edition of the International Music and Scene Festival. Premiere of the opera Antonieta in Raúl Flores Canelo Theater. The opera Antonieta was put on the scene again in the Fine Arts Palace in 2016. In December 2016 is invited to the LARK Center to read her play New York versus El Zapotito in the Nuyorican Poet Café. Premiere of the play Delirium 3:45 am in 2016, which was shown in the Monologue’s Festival ‘Teatro a una sola voz 2017’. Premiere of the opera The insects’ game in 2018 in the Fine Arts Palace. The play Wanderers was shown in Casa de La Paz Theater in 2018. She was financially supported by the Artistic Mobility Program by FONCA to attend the dramatized reading of her play New York versus El Zapotito in Hungary. She gave two workshops in the Festival IMPULSO, in Casa de La Paz, and UNAM. In 2019 she directed the play Wanderers. A Pink Sunday is translated and published in Hungarian, Szeged University. Invited to attend the dramatized reading of her play New York versus El Zapotito in French, in the Mexican Institute in Paris. Slices of life is premiered in Santiago de Chile. She attended the premiere and gave a lecture about Fictionalized Autobiography at the Major University. Premiere of her play Wanderers in CCB. New York versus El Zapotito is shown at Teatro 13 in Paris, in the Don Quijote Festival. Eurydice Today is selected by the Contigo a la Distancia Programme by FONCA. She produced a digital version of her play The New Alexandria. Slices of life is shown in a digital version at the San Antonio University, in Texas, by Palo Alto Theater. Invited to the Latinamerican Colloquium organized by the Toulouse University Jean Jaurés in November 2020.
